Don Tracy: In Chicago, Victims Continue to Pay as Politicians Protect Criminals
CHICAGO — This weekend’s deep freeze didn’t slow down crime in Chicago. The city experienced yet another violent weekend, with shootings, sexual assaults, human trafficking arrests, and crimes on public transit continuing to put families, commuters, and small businesses at risk.
Among the incidents reported:
At least 8 people were hurt in Chicago weekend shootings
A man was shot inside a car in Bronzeville
A 23-year old man shot and seriously injured another man on Chicago’s South Side
A woman on probation for a prior Red Line robbery was charged with attempted murder in a CTA stabbing
31 men arrested in January human trafficking operations in Cook County
Missing 17-year old girl last seen in January
Man with 14 previous arrests sexually abused woman in CTA elevator
Group of armed suspects steal ATMs from Avondale, Belmont Gardens businesses
Glenview man charged with child solicitation
“This weekend’s violence is completely unacceptable,” said Tracy, ”Families were shot, teenagers were wounded on public transit, women were assaulted, businesses were targeted, and criminals with long records were once again able to harm innocent people. This is the direct result of failed leadership and extreme policies that put criminals ahead of victims.
“The most basic responsibility of government is public safety. The career politicians running Chicago and Illinois have failed. Under extreme progressive policies that defund police, favor criminals over victims, and excuse lawlessness, violent offenders are repeatedly released back onto the streets. We see the consequences every single weekend.
“When Brandon Johnson calls law enforcement a ‘sickness,’ and Chicago Democrats serve special interests instead of holding criminals accountable, Illinoisans pay the price. When communities aren’t safe, neighborhoods decline, families leave, businesses close, and the cost-of-living rises even higher for everyone who stays. Illinoisans deserve leadership that takes crime seriously and stands with victims, not criminals.”
